Car of the Year Awards 2022: Best small SUV for practicality
A small SUV's compact size mustn’t come at the expense of practicality and should be reflected by low running costs. It should ride comfortably, too, while maintaining a sense of fun...
Skoda Kamiq 1.0 TSI 95 SE
If the Skoda Kamiq were a bag of crisps, it would be the ‘mega sharing’ variety.
It uses the same basic ingredients as the Seat Arona and Volkswagen T-Cross but is significantly bigger. You get so much space that no other small SUV comes close to offering as much rear leg room, and even the tallest passengers can fit in without slouching.
The Kamiq’s boot is immense as well, and we managed to fit seven carry-on suitcases into it. Only the Ford Puma, with its trick underfloor storage area, can beat that number. The Kamiq’s carrying capacity doesn’t end there, though, because the interior is packed with useful storage cubbies.
Overall, then, the Kamiq is exactly what many small SUV buyers are looking for: a smallish car with small car costs and small car convenience, but the practicality of models from the class above.
