The 2024 Kia Picanto is a good small car with a smart interior, tidy handling and a very easy to use infotainment system. The Hyundai i10 is a bit more polished in terms of ride and refinement though, and a Dacia Sandero offers more space but costs even less.

This mid-spec trim gets the same styling of a 2 trim model but the kit of GT-Line and adds things like heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and keyless entry. It’s only available with the 1.0 MPi engine.

The non-turbocharged 66bhp 1.0 MPi is pretty much the default choice. That's because it's available with the majority of trims and with a manual or automatic gearbox. 0-62mph takes just over 15.4sec (or 18.2sec for the auto), which is fine for pottering around town but does feel very sluggish out on the open road.
