2017 Volvo XC60 reader test team review
The previous Volvo XC60 was one of the most popular large SUVs around. Can its successor improve on its already excellent comfort, drive and practicality?...
“This new XC60 is an amazing-looking car, and you get an awful lot of kit as standard. With my Macan, I had to pay a lot of money to get features that are standard here, such as sat-nav, a leather interior and parking sensors.
“The XC60’s infotainment system is quite intuitive, but its 9.0in touchscreen is quite a reach for me from the driver’s seat. However, you also get a digital instrument display in front of you that displays useful information when you’re driving.
“Both the interior design and quality are impressive. I particularly like the design of the dashboard – the clean lines and the little touches such as the nicely detailed nozzles on the air conditioning vents.
“The seats in the back are slightly higher-set than those in the front, but head room is still decent. The boot is spacious enough for a family’s suitcases, and I love that it has an electrically opening tailgate.
“There are a lot of SUVs on the road these days. A lot look very indifferent. Some premium models look nice, but this XC60 is very good-looking. It’s good value for money and has all the kit you need. I don’t know what’s not to like.”
“We’ve got a three-year-old son, and because he’s growing up and I’m quite a big chap myself, I want an SUV to replace my saloon. I really like the look of this new XC60.
“I’m 6ft 2in tall, but I still found leg and head room to be excellent in the both the front and rear seats. This particular car has a sunroof, which normally reduces head room, but I still had plenty. If I were driving, someone of average height could still happily sit behind me.
“I love all of the semi-autonomous safety features, such as automatic emergency braking, emergency steering assistance and Pilot Assist, which is essentially an advanced version of adaptive cruise control. They make such a difference and make you feel much better protected, which is especially important to me now that I have a child.
“One feature I like is that the door sills are actually part of the door, rather than the car’s body, so they come away when you open the doors, making it much easier to get in and out. It’s easier than in my current Mondeo, which is a low saloon.
“The XC60's standard kit is very good, but I’d have to add keyless entry.”
