2018 Seat Arona 1.5 TSI Evo 150 review - verdict

A new 1.5-litre petrol engine delivers warm-hatch performance to the Seat Arona, but is it the pick of the range?...

2018 Seat Arona 1.5 TSI Evo 150 review - verdict

The Arona is a class-leading small SUV, and this 1.5 is the most impressive engine, performance-wise, on offer. However, the 115 and 95 versions of the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine will suit the vast majority of buyers; both engines are great around town and can manage occasional motorway trips without trouble.

If you do a fair few more miles a year, though, and a strong engine is important to you, the 1.5 can be had for a very reasonable £1400 over the 1.0 115 in FR trim, although it remains to be seen what the difference will be on a PCP finance deal.

So, as good as this engine is, the Arona makes more sense when you keep it cheap; SE Technology trim paired with the 1.0 TSI 95 engine remains our sweet spot of the range.
