The Audi A3 1.6-litre TDI Ultra models are now available, and bring emissions down to a new low for the hatchback’s range.

The engine reduces CO2 emissions to 89g/km from a previous low of 99g/km for the Audi A3 range. Average fuel economy is a claimed 83.1mpg in both three-door and five-door Sportback versions. The three-door model has an official 0-62mph time of 10.5 seconds while the Sportback takes 10.7 seconds while both have top speeds of 124mph.

The A3 Ultra models come with low-rolling resistance tyres on five-spoke 16in alloy wheels and sports suspension as standard. Several items of equipment are not available in the new version, with a tyre inflation kit replacing the spacesaver spare wheel and a panoramic glass sunroof and the tow bar not offered on the economy-focussed model.

The A3 1.6 TDI Ultra SE and SE Technik models replace the standard 1.6 TDI SE and SE Technik models while the Sport and S line versions remain unchanged.

Pricing for the new Ultra models starts at £20,865 - a £40 increase over the outgoing non-Ultra version. The SE Technik starts at £21,615 while the Sportback version of both trims adds £620 to the price.

The Ultra models are available for order now with the first deliveries scheduled for August.
