Our verdict

It may be the oldest model here, but the Q2 takes the win. Yes, the ride is a little firmer than we’d like, but the flip side of this is keen handling that makes it the most enjoyable of our trio to drive. Plus, you get a high-quality interior and a brilliant infotainment system.

The silver medal goes to the T-Roc. It's the cheapest to buy or finance, yet comes well equipped. What's more it has a stronger engine than the Q2 and is a little bit comfier. It’s just a shame the interior feels so cheap and that the infotainment isn’t easier to use on the move.

And the Countryman? Well, it’s certainly the most practical, with the biggest boot, the most rear leg room and the most flexible rear seats. It’s the nippiest of our trio, too. Unfortunately, its jittery ride, nervous handling and higher PCP costs mean it has to finish last.
