Peugeot 5008 SUV: what else are buyers considering?

The 5008 is our favourite large SUV, so it's unsurprisingly popular with What Car? readers. But which other cars do 5008 buyers consider, and do they deserve a place on your shortlist?...

Peugeot 5008, Toyota RAV4, Skoda Kodiaq, Land Rover Discovery Sport

If you're in the market for a new car, chances are you don't have just one model in mind. And while we can tell you which cars are our favourites in any given segment, data from What Car? New Car Buying shows that buyers usually consider cars from many different classes.

The Peugeot 5008 has been our favourite large SUV for two years running, thanks to its spacious and versatile interior, its competitive fuel economy and low C02 emissions. If you've got a large family to move around, there's nothing better. And if you want to know more about the 5008, you can read our full review, or you can see how much we can save you with our Target Price discounts.

Below and over the next few pages, we'll look at the cars real buyers have been considering alongside the Peugeot, and offer our advice on which would be wise buys. We'll also show you what percentage of buyers are interested in each car while they were researching their next model, and how that had changed by the time they were ready to buy.

This is Skoda's largest SUV, and it's supremely practical inside while also offering excellent value for money. And being in the same category as the 5008, it's perhaps unsurprising that a fifth of potential buyers are also considering one alongside the Peugeot at the outset.

Mazda CX-5

Large SUV buyers don't always need seven seats, which explains why Mazda's five-seat CX-5 is being considered so strongly alongside the 5008. And if you don't need to transport more than five people, the CX-5 is one of the very best cars of its kind; it's comfortable, spacious and good to drive, plus it comes with a frugal range of petrol and diesel engines.
