These are the first pictures of the Vauxhall Mokka, a baby SUV which is due on sale later this year.

The Mokka has been developed in Korea, alongside a Chevrolet-badged version that will also be sold in the UK. Its based on the same chassis as the Chevrolet Aveo; the set-up will also underpin the next generation of Corsa.

The new model has been styled in Korea, with input from GMs European design centre under the direction of Mark Adams.

It includes a pronounced front grille, deep surface scallops along both side doors, and an unusual rear pillar that incorporates wraparound glass in a complex rear hatch. The car is 4.28m long, around 30cm longer than a Corsa.

Few technical details have been issued, but the new car will be offered with front- and four-wheel drive, a choice of two petrol engines and one turbodiesel, and a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Stop-start will be standard across the range, and features such as a rear parking camera and Vauxhalls Flexfix bike carrier will be offered as options.

No prices have been announced, but wed expect the new model to be more expensive than other baby SUVs such as Suzukis SX4. That equates to a starting figure of around 14,000, rising to just shy of 20k for luxury trim levels.

A Buick version of the car was revealed at the Detroit motor show.
