2018 Vauxhall Corsa GSi verdict

With racy looks and reasonable running costs, could the Vauxhall Corsa GSi be the car that hot hatch fans on a budget have been waiting for?...

2018 Vauxhall Corsa GSi verdict

We can certainly see the appeal of the Corsa GSi. It may not have the punch of hot hatch rivals like the Fiesta ST, but it offers brisk performance, grippy handling and thuggish looks along with reasonable running costs. For someone in their late teens or early 20s with high insurance premiums, this might be as much 'hot hatch' as you can afford.

However, we would suggest that the Corsa GSi isn’t really a rival to ‘proper’ hot hatches. Instead, it’s more of a lukewarm hatch, just like the Fiesta ST-Line and Seat Ibiza FR. With that in mind, it’s worth remembering that you can buy a 138bhp Fiesta ST-Line with far more entertaining handling and insurance that’s a whole five groups lower for just over a thousand pounds less. If we were after a sporty-feeling hatchback with reasonable running costs, that’s where we’d put our money.
