Car of the Year Awards 2022: Best large electric car for value
Whatever their flavour, the best large electric cars have the range, comfort and performance to cover long distances without a murmur, plus the space and practicality to act as sole transport...
MG 5 Long Range Excite

While all electric cars are cheap to run, few manage to strike a balance between low list price and decent range. The MG 5 EV Long Range is a rare exception to this rule, officially being able to cover 250 miles between charges while still undercutting the prices of even some smaller electric cars (EVs) such as the Honda E and Renault Zoe.
It’s not like that value forces you to accept major compromises elsewhere, either. The interior is well screwed together and feels plusher than the Nissan Leaf's, and even the entry-level Excite model comes with plenty of kit, including a rear-view camera and adaptive cruise control.

Being an estate car, the MG 5 is relatively practical, too, although its boot can’t hold quite as much as that of conventional family load-luggers such as the Ford Focus Estate. Alongside all of that, it’s quick off the line and handles confidently enough along country lanes.
