Frankfurt 2009: Peugeot 5008

What is it?
The 5008 is Peugeots new MPV, which goes on sale next spring.
Itll come with five or seven seats and prices are expected to start at around 15,000.
Its based on the excellent Grand C4 Picasso from sister-company Citroen, so the 5008 has fabulous genes.
It means the 5008 has a flexible, easy-to-use layout where the rear seats slide forward and back and disappear flat into the floor when theyre not needed. When theyre tucked away they leave an enormous 2506 litres of luggage space, which is more than the Grand C4 Picasso can offer.
So, if you need to drop six kids off at school and then pick up an antique wardrobe the 5008 will be able to take it all in its stride.
Any other tricks?
Lots of storage boxes, pockets, a cooled centre console to chill the kids drinks and the option of an entertainment system through which they can watch DVDs or play video games.
If that wasnt enough, theres also a WiFi-enabled version of the car at Frankfurt so you can catch up with work, keep up to date with whatcar.com or, more likely, let your darlings play computer games online.
How does it differ from the C4?
Besides its looks and extra space, Peugeot claims the 5008 will have dynamic road holding which isnt exactly a virtue that springs to mind when you think about the Citroen.
We will, of course, have to wait until weve driven the car later in the year to see how successful the companys suspension jiggery-pokery has been.
