Economical 88mpg Skoda Octavia Greenline announced

The Skoda Octavia Greenline has joined the hatchback's lineup, with an average fuel economy of 88.3mpg and a 85g/km CO2 rating.

The Greenline is powered by a tweaked version of the Octavia's 1.6-litre diesel engine, which offers 108bhp rather than the standard 104bhp. It is the same unit that is offered in the Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion and the Seat Leon Ecomotive.

The 85g/km CO2 rating means the Octavia Greenline qualifies for a a 13% BIK rating and the lowest, Band A, category for VED tax. The slight increase in power over the 104bhp 1.6-litre diesel results in a slight boost in acceleration as well, with 0-62mph taking 10.6 seconds, down from 10.8 seconds.

The changes over the standard Octavia include low-rolling resistance tyres, bespoke 16-inch alloy wheels, stop-start technology, and battery regeneration technology. It also gets Greenline badging and and cornering front foglights as standard.

The Skoda Octavia Greenline is on sale now, priced at £20,150.
