Top 10 most popular new car reviews of 2016
Will it be a family-friendly hatchback, a sporty SUV or a cute city car, or something else besides, that takes the honours as the most popular What Car? review of 2016?...
7. Mazda CX-5
The current Mazda CX-5 is getting on a bit and is due to be replaced soon, but it’s still a great family car. Its biggest strength is that it’s great fun to drive, but the CX-5 is also impressively economical, reliable, and endowed with a spacious interior. It isn’t the most comfortable SUV, though, with a firm ride and lots of wind and road noise. That said, the impending arrival of the new model means there are soon to be some great deals around on this generation car.
Small cars don’t come much more spacious than the Skoda Fabia. It’s got loads of room for both front and rear seat passengers, as well as in the boot. But that isn’t all there is to recommend it for: the Fabia’s pleasant to drive, if not quite as exciting as some rivals, and has a fantastic infotainment system. True, the dashboard isn’t quite as high-quality as it could be – but that’s a small price to pay for the Fabia’s copious talents.

It was one of the most hotly anticipated new cars, so it’s no great surprise that the Land Rover Discovery Sport is still a huge deal with What Car? readers – especially when it can boast that affluent Land Rover image, seven seats, and a dashboard that not only feels upmarket, but is easy to use. The Discovery Sport manages to be both decent to drive and comfortable, and is let down only by an automatic gearbox that’s sometimes slow to respond.
