2021 Nissan Qashqai in pictures

One of the aims with the new Qashqai was to give it a more solid and muscular look than previous versions.

Wheels of up to 20in are available to improve the stance; the previous maximum was 19in.

The front grille hides technology that's needed for Nissan’s ProPilot driver assistance package; specify this and the car can keep you to the correct legal speed and even apply the brakes when you’re approaching a corner.

Design details were borrowed from Nissan’s 2019 iMQ concept car, including its super-slim LED headlights.

Qashqai branding is subtly included beneath the headlights.

Four-wheel drive is an option and brings more sophisticated rear suspension, but the ‘skid plate’ in the bumper is just for show.

Elevated seating and slim windscreen pillars give you a good forward view, but, as in many SUVs, over-the-shoulder visibility could be better.

The rear lights are a similar shape to the outgoing Qashqai's, but they're now longer and slimmer.

An optional contrasting black roof makes the new Qashqai look lower than it actually is.

High-end versions get a powered tailgate that allows hands-free opening.

The boot is bigger than before (up from 430 litres to 504 litres), but keeps its predecessor's two-piece height-adjustable floor.

You can also position one of the false boot floor 'planks' vertically to divide the luggage space in two and stop smaller items from sliding around.

The rear doors open to 90 degrees, making it easy to get child seats in and out of the car.

There's space for a couple of six-footers in the rear, while the wider interior boosts comfort for three people sitting side by side.

There are USB and USB-C charging ports for wired devices in the rear of the new Qashqai as well as the front.

Range-topping model comes with electrically adjustable leather seats that feature a three-dimensional diamond quilted pattern.

A leather-wrapped upper dashboard gives high-end models a more premium feel, while all-white illumination replaces the previous Qashqai’s mixture of orange and white.

Traditional dials have been ditched in favour of customisable digital instruments. These are complemented by a 10.8in head-up display on high-spec versions of the car.

A high-mounted 9.0in infotainment touchscreen and proper shortcut buttons help you keep your eyes on the road.

This cubby ahead of gearlever provides wireless charging, plus you can have wi-fi for up to seven devices.

Four-wheel drive Qashqais now have five selectable driving modes: Standard, Eco, Sport, Snow and Off-Road.
