The 10 most popular cars in the UK right now
The UK's new car market fell again in November, but a big upturn in sales of electric cars means it's not all bad news. So, who were the big winners?...

The number of new cars sold in the UK fell again in November, continuing the downward spiral experienced across 2019.
While Brexit and economic uncertainty takes the brunt of the blame, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders says that weak business, a lack of consumer confidence and confusion over diesel have also contributed to the decline. In total, 156,621 new cars were sold in November, a 1.3% fall compared with the same month last year, while across the year sales are down by 2.7%.
There is good news, though, because sales of electrified cars – hybrids, plug-in hybrids and fully electric models – continue to rise. In fact, one in 10 cars sold in November fell into this category, with more than 16,000 buyers choosing to go green. Across the year so far, electrified cars have accounted for 7.2% of all sales, compared with 5.9% in 2018.
Conversely, across 2019 so far sales of diesel cars are down by 22% compared with the same period in 2018, while sales of petrol cars are up by 2.2%,.
Below and over the next few pages, we'll look at the 10 best-selling cars in November.
The top 10 sellers in November 2019
10. Volkswagen Tiguan

The Tiguan has to compete with the class-leading Range Rover Evoque, plus other prestige-badged rivals from the likes of Audi, BMW and Mercedes. However, it makes a good case for itself with a spacious interior and a strong range of engines.

9. Volkswagen Polo

The Polo is our reigning champion in the small car class, and it's easy to see why. Not only is it deceptively spacious, but it's quiet on the move, has a supple ride and is offered with a range of peppy engines. It genuinely feels like a car from the class above, and while it can be a tad pricey, our Target Price deals means that need not be a problem.

8. Mini hatchback

The Mini hatchback consistently appears on this list, and we like its low running costs and strong resale values. It's great to drive, although it's not as practical as some rival small cars
